Ever feel like you’re just spinning your wheels?  Doing “stuff” all day long, and yet never making progress?  I’ve been feeling that way a lot lately.

When I was working for someone else, I always knew exactly what to do, when to do it, how to do it, the deadlines…I knew everything!

It’s a very different scenario in business for myself.  It hasn’t always been that way.  Things started off well.  I was focused.  Driven.  Destined for success!  Now I’m feeling like this woman over here…just spinning my wheels and not going anywhere.

Perhaps I have developed ADD.  I know there are a lot of things I need to do for my business.  There are a lot of other things I want to do for my business.  And there’s one thing all of them have in common:  they take time, and they take resources.

Everywhere we turn, we get different messages:

  • Website!  You must have a cool website that speaks to your market to be successful!
  • Blogging!  Blogging is the answer!  You must blog to be succesful!
  • Facebook!  You must be on Facebook!  Everybody who’s anybody knows you must have 10,000+ fans!
  • Twitter!  If you’re not tweeting…you’re not hitting your market…and you’re missing out!
  • Email!  Email is the answer!  Get your autoresponder set up so you can “set it and forget it!”
  • Author!  You must be an author to have credibility in your niche!
  • Speaker!  You must be a speaker to promote your book and have credibility in your niche!
  • Products to sell!  If you don’t have your own products to sell, you need affiliate products to sell!

STOP THE INSANITY!!!

Right now, I’m overwhelmed.  There are so many things to do, and so little time to do it.  No wonder I’m hitting the chips and queso pretty hard right now!  (I know…stress eating isn’t good for me…Weight Watchers will fix it!  Zumba will fix it!  Sleeping more will fix it!…)  Everywhere I turn, there are so many options.

Ever feel like that?  What do YOU do about it?  How do you regain the focus you and your business require?

Gotta go now…pretty, sparkly thing over there I need to go see…

I feel like this a lot, but especially at the beginning of the year, or in September (beginning of the school year). I like creating new things, but I don’t like the follow through. One of the ways I’ve helped myself slow down is to keep a notebook with sections marked “Future Ideas” so I can do that brainstorm, get it out of my head, but agree with myself to leave it alone for 6 mos, a year, etc. I also think that having a concrete TO DO list daily helps me from being all over the place with Twitter, Facebook, etc. I plan out what needs to get done and try to stick to the list.

Gina, thank you so much for sharing that I’m not alone in the overwhelmed department! I’m also that enjoys STARTING new things…and I’m not so good with the follow-up and COMPLETING new things! The “future ideas” notebook is a good idea. I can see mine now: “Future Ideas: Volume 1,” “…Volume 2,” “…Volume 3…” 🙂

    Hi Followstacy,
I was wondering on a similar note,, It can be a difficult job, picking out an ideal title for the blog post. You want this to be tempting sufficient for your viewer to take the very first bite, while avoiding deceit of the content material the reader is all about in order to participate. Therefore the goal would be to make your content material tempting!
    Keep up the good work
